Findings in a statistics done recently show that only 2% of Kenyans are educated up to degree level. With the new law that MPs and MCAs must have a degree to be cleared by the IEBC to vie for the said posts, this means that the 98% will be ruled by the 2% which doesn't add up. There are various reasons why most Kenyans did manage past the 8 4 4 level of education. Among them being shortage of finances to cater for higher education.
In as much as I advocate for good education for our people and leaders, I also feel that it's unfair to lock out people with leadership qualities from these positions simply because they don't have the papers. Some of these people who have degrees do nothing constructive in those political positions.
For this objective to be achieved, then the government must also provide free education past the basic one. Then that way every Kenyan will not have any reason to no have a degree and above.
It's a good law but time is not ripe for its implementation.
